A short run north on part of the NC500 on the West Coast Scottish Highlands.

Headed out from Ullapool for a short run on the KTM with a few friends heading north to Kylesku a small part of the #NC500.

As always i mounted my Galaxy S6 Edge waterproof tough case to the KTM via the Handlebar Clamp Bolt so that i could listen to music.  Some folk don't like to listen to music but its something i have always done since passing my DAS some 13 years ago.   I use ear buds to reduce the wind noise and then soft in helmet headphones inside my Shoei Hornet Adv.  The Samsung Galaxy S6 is always getting powered from my bikes battery, so i can set my phone to Full brightness, Spotify & when needed satnav.

I love the KTM 990sm for the short an twistiest roads, however as we set off i could feel the wind blowing me about like a rag doll, did no help that i removed the fly screen removed and riding straight into the wind my neck was feeling it.  The Shoei Hornet Adv is better at dealing with wind at higher speeds over the Hornet DS, i owned the Hornet DS and ended up snapping the peak off at higher speeds.

Ardmair Bay

Heading into Ardmair Bay with the mightly Ben Mor Coigach in the background.  Lovely right hander here but you have to be careful of tourists pulling out or suddenly deciding they want to stop for a look.

Just after Ledmore junction, left towards Lochinver and North and right to Bonar Bridge and the East coast.   Bikes are a Honda CBR Fireblade and Suzuki GSXR 1000.

Ardvreck Castle / Inchnadamph

Heading into Inchnadamph with Ardvreck castle in Loch Assynt on the left.  Lovely bit of road here however you have to watch out for a lot of tourists pulling over or pulling out of the laybys as a very popular place to stop.

Favourite Part of Run

Since i bought the KTM this has been my favourite bit of road. Heading north you climb the hill with some lovely sweeping bends where you can get the bike right over.  Further along the road you have to be careful as there are some really tight corners and easy to go in too hot, the road is fairly narrow so in the height of summer you get large buses that cross over onto the wrong side of the road.

Stop @ Viewpoint

Stopped to enjoy the view, there is a cracking viewpoint not far before Unapool. Even this short route the Galaxy s6 would have been dead if it was not connected to the bikes battery to keep it charged via the hardwire charging kit.  As you can see i use Spotify in offline mode so i simply select a few different playlists and download.

Kylesku Hotel

A short stop in Kylesku, never went over the bridge this time really should have.  The Kylesku hotel food is spot on.  If you decide not to continue west after Ardvreck castle you can do the Drumbeg road which loops back to Kylesku.

I really love the look of the KTM RC8, i swung my leg over it and being 6ft 3 and pretty big it felt to small and cramped :-(  Im just too big for spotsbikes, always drool at them but reality is i could not live with one anymore.

Heading back this is the viewpoint i was talking about, gives a lovely view heading north and a great place to watch bikes.  Not a great picture as looking into the sun but it really is a lovely spot.

Heading back down towards Inchnadamph with Loch Assynt in the background.  You can see why this is my favourite part of the road, feels like the KTM was built for this.

Home sweat home

Always a lovely view coming into Ullapool from the north looking down over the village and Loch Broom.

Hi what did you think about the NC500? There are a group of us planning on doing it next year and looking to either just do the route or branch off and see more of the north of Scotland.
